According to the Iowa State Patrol, the collision occurred shortly before 1 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 30 and 210th Street in Greene County. The crash involved a 2018 Toyota Prius driven by Bachmann and a 2019 Ford Escape carrying two people.

Investigators said the Ford Escape was traveling westbound on 210th Street. The two occupants of the SUV approached the intersection and proceeded from a stop sign. At that point, the vehicle was struck by Bachmann’s Toyota Prius, which was traveling southeast along Highway 30.

The two people inside the Ford Escape, both 27 years old, were also injured. The driver, a man from Lincoln, Nebraska, suffered serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. The passenger, a woman from West Des Moines, was transported by Carroll EMS to the same hospital for treatment.
