In Loving Memory of Joshua Jordan Cornelius
A Minnesota man has died following a motorcycle crash north of Hill City earlier this week, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Authorities identified the victim as Joshua Jordan Cornelius, 46, of Hollandale, Minnesota. Cornelius died after a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on Deerfield Road, approximately a half-mile north of Hill City.
According to preliminary information released by the Highway Patrol, Cornelius was traveling northbound on a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he passed another vehicle. Investigators said that while attempting to return to his lane, he lost control of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle subsequently entered the northbound ditch and rolled. Cornelius was fatally injured in the crash.
The Highway Patrol reported that Cornelius was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Authorities have not indicated whether any other vehicles were involved in the crash beyond the vehicle he had reportedly passed.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Cornelius did not survive his injuries. His death has left family members, friends and others who knew him mourning the sudden loss of a Minnesota man whose life came to an unexpected end while traveling through the Hill City area.
The crash serves as another reminder of the risks faced by motorcyclists on the road. Motorcycle riders have less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles, making safety precautions particularly important. Wearing an approved helmet is among the measures that can help reduce the risk of serious injury in a motorcycle crash.
For Cornelius’s loved ones, however, the circumstances surrounding the crash are secondary to the profound loss they are now facing. A life that included family, friendships, memories and personal experiences has been brought to an abrupt close.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials emphasized that the information released so far is preliminary and that additional findings could emerge as investigators complete their work.
As the investigation continues, family and friends are left to remember Joshua Jordan Cornelius and the moments they shared with him. His passing is a heartbreaking loss, and thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy.
May Joshua Jordan Cornelius be remembered with love, dignity and respect, and may those who knew and loved him find strength and comfort in the memories he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, Joshua Jordan Cornelius.
