Rowdy G. Hill Dies Following Officer-Involved Shooting After Traffic Stop and Standoff in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday night after a traffic stop escalated into a vehicle pursuit and armed standoff in Cobb County.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, uniformed patrol officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Cadillac SUV at approximately 10:22 p.m. on June 5 after observing the vehicle being driven recklessly on Windy Hill Road.

Police said the driver failed to stop and fled from officers, who were operating marked patrol vehicles with emergency equipment activated. During the pursuit, the driver lost control of the SUV, which overturned near a residence on Windy Hill Road west of Osborne Court.

Authorities reported that the driver remained inside the overturned vehicle and refused repeated commands to exit. During the standoff, police said the driver was armed with a firearm and discharged the weapon, prompting some officers to fire their service weapons.

Investigators stated that the driver then attempted to exit the vehicle while armed with a firearm, at which point an officer fired, striking him.

The driver was later identified by loved ones as Rowdy G. Hill. He died as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.

No officers were injured during the encounter.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene and has assumed responsibility for investigating the officer-involved shooting. Officials have not released additional details as the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The incident began as a traffic stop and escalated into a significant police response in the area of Windy Hill Road and Osborne Court, where SWAT personnel also responded following reports of shots fired.

Further information is expected to be released as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues its review of the incident.
