SAYBROOK, ILLINOIS — The community of Saybrook is mourning the loss of Scott E. Baxter, 54, who died following a head-on collision on U.S. Route 66 near Lincoln on Thursday, August 13.

According to Logan County Coroner Donald Peasley, Baxter was pronounced dead at the Lincoln Memorial Hospital Emergency Room after being involved in the serious crash. His death has left family, friends, neighbors, and others who knew him grieving a life lost unexpectedly.

The Logan County Coroner’s Office was called at approximately 4:05 p.m. Thursday following reports of a head-on collision on U.S. Route 66 near 1500th Avenue, in the area near Lincoln. When authorities arrived, Baxter was identified as one of the drivers involved in the crash.

The collision resulted in severe injuries, and Baxter was transported to Lincoln Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Despite efforts to save his life, he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
