In Loving Memory of Danny Smith Following Three-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 225

Our thoughts are with Danny Smith, 73, of Chatsworth, following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 225 in Gordon County, Georgia, on Friday afternoon, August 14, 2026.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy 225 and Craigtown Road. A trooper from GSP-Calhoun Post 623 responded to the scene after receiving a report of a three-vehicle crash involving injuries.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 2020 Buick Enclave, driven by 54-year-old Maria Feliciano of Kissimmee, Florida, was traveling southbound on Craigtown Road. Feliciano approached the intersection with Highway 225 and stopped at the posted stop sign.

After stopping, Feliciano attempted to cross Highway 225 and continue southbound onto Newtown Church Road. Investigators determined that she failed to yield to traffic traveling on the highway and entered the path of a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck traveling northbound on Hwy 225.

The Buick struck the S-10 in the left rear area, causing the pickup truck to begin rotating clockwise.

As the vehicle rotated, Smith attempted to steer the pickup back toward the left. The maneuver was followed by another rotation of the truck, which then collided with a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound on Hwy 225.

The Silverado was driven by 40-year-old Pauline Smith, also of Chatsworth. Authorities clarified that Pauline Smith and Danny Smith are not related, despite sharing the same last name.

The impact caused Danny Smith’s S-10 to overturn. The pickup ultimately came to rest on its roof in the southbound lane of Highway 225.

Smith sustained injuries in the collision and was transported by private vehicle to AdventHealth Gordon in Calhoun for medical treatment. Authorities said his injuries were not life-threatening. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly a routine journey can change when vehicles meet at busy intersections. Even after a driver stops at a stop sign, motorists must carefully check for approaching traffic and yield when required before entering a roadway.

The Georgia State Patrol cited Feliciano for Failure to Yield After Stopping at a Stop Sign in connection with the crash.

At this time, authorities have not reported any fatality associated with this collision. Danny Smith survived the crash and was receiving treatment for his injuries. Therefore, this incident is more accurately remembered as a serious crash involving injuries rather than a death.

We extend our thoughts to Danny Smith, his loved ones, and everyone affected by the collision. We also hope for his continued recovery following the frightening events of Friday afternoon.

May Danny Smith find strength and healing in the days ahead, and may his family, friends, and community continue to stand beside him throughout his recovery.

In loving memory of the difficult moments endured, with hope for healing, recovery, and brighter days ahead.
