According to the Washington State Patrol, troopers responded at approximately 6:27 a.m. to a serious collision on southbound SR 525 near Beverly Park Road involving a motorcycle and a minivan. The crash caused significant disruption as investigators worked for hours to document the scene and determine what happened.

Authorities said a 2005 Dodge minivan traveling northbound attempted to turn left across the southbound lanes. Woods, who was riding a motorcycle, struck the passenger side of the minivan. Despite the severity of the collision, Woods could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation took an additional turn after authorities said the driver of the minivan left the area following the collision. Surveillance footage allegedly showed the driver getting out of the vehicle and walking away from the area. Court documents state that the driver appeared to look back toward the crash scene before leaving.

Investigators later received a crucial tip from an individual who told Washington State Patrol that an employee had contacted him after the crash. According to police, the employee said he had been involved in a collision with a motorcyclist and would not be coming to work, and allegedly acknowledged leaving the crash scene.

That information helped investigators identify a 36-year-old Everett man as a suspect. Detectives reportedly obtained cellphone data through a search warrant showing that the man’s phone was active in the area around the time of the crash. Investigators also said the suspect’s appearance matched the person captured in surveillance footage.

On August 14, authorities said the suspect arranged to meet with Washington State Patrol investigators at the agency’s office in Marysville. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death. He was expected to appear in court Monday, August 17.

While the arrest represents an important development in the investigation, it cannot undo the heartbreaking loss suffered by Woods’ family and loved ones.
