In Loving Memory of Austin Reed Young
Motorcyclist Killed in Greene County Crash
GREENE COUNTY, Va. — The community of Greene County is mourning the loss of 27-year-old Austin Reed Young of Ruckersville, who died following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Tuesday evening, August 25.
According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 5:22 p.m. on Swift Run Road, about 50 yards south of Wildwood Drive. Young was traveling southbound on a 2025 Kawasaki ZX1000 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the motorcycle crossed the centerline.
Police said the motorcycle then ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a utility pole before continuing into a tree. The impact resulted in fatal injuries, and Young was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The news of Young’s passing has brought sorrow to those who knew him, as a life that still held so many possibilities was suddenly and tragically cut short. At just 27 years old, Austin was at an age when there was still so much ahead—more memories to make, more milestones to celebrate, and more moments to share with family, friends, and the people who cared about him.
While the circumstances surrounding the crash are still being examined, the loss itself is already deeply felt. A sudden tragedy like this can leave loved ones facing an overwhelming mixture of grief, disbelief, and unanswered questions. The investigation by Virginia State Police will seek to establish the circumstances that led to the motorcycle leaving its lane and ultimately colliding with the utility pole and tree.
For Austin’s family and friends, however, he was much more than a name connected to a traffic investigation. He was a son, a friend, a loved one, and a person whose life touched others in ways that cannot be measured by a police report.
As the community remembers Austin Reed Young, may the focus remain on the life he lived and the memories he leaves behind. Those who knew and loved him will carry those memories forward, remembering the conversations, shared experiences, laughter, kindness, and everyday moments that made him important to their lives.
The tragedy is also a reminder of how quickly circumstances on the road can change and how precious every moment with the people we love truly is. Behind every fatal crash is a family and a circle of friends left to cope with a profound loss.
Austin’s passing leaves an empty space that cannot simply be filled. Though his life was far too short, the memories created during his 27 years will remain part of the lives of those who knew him.
Rest in peace, Austin Reed Young. May you be remembered not for the circumstances of the tragedy that took your life, but for the person you were, the lives you touched, and the memories you left behind.
Our thoughts are with Austin’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss during this difficult time.
The Virginia State Police investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances of the crash.
In loving memory of Austin Reed Young, 27, of Ruckersville, Virginia.
May his memory forever be a blessing to those who knew and loved him. 🕊️
