Chris J. Bates Death, Obituary, Durand Fire Department Mourns Firefighter and US Marine Veteran

The Durand Fire Department and community mourn the loss of a steadfast guardian, Firefighter Chris J. Bates. Chris answered the call to serve in 2007, dedicating sixteen years to the department where he rose to the vital roles of Lieutenant and Training Officer, imparting his knowledge to protect others. At the time of his passing, he stood as a respected Senior Member, a pillar of experience and resolve.

His commitment to service was forged earlier, as a proud United States Marine Veteran. This dual legacy of protecting his country and his community defined him. Chris was an amazing firefighter, known for his skill, courage, and unwavering dedication to the brotherhood.

Yet, to those who knew him best, his most profound title was that of family man. More importantly, he was a brilliant husband, a devoted father, and a cherished grandfather. His love and strength created a foundation that will endure forever.

To our brother, we say: Your watch has ended. Rest easy in well-deserved peace. We will take the watch from here. Your legacy of service, mentorship, and profound love remains our guide. Godspeed, Chris Bates.
