According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Ryan was involved in a fatal crash Monday afternoon on U.S. Highway 16A, approximately four miles east of Custer. The crash occurred near mile marker 27 as Ryan was traveling westbound on a 2002 Yamaha Super Hawk.

Authorities reported that the motorcycle left the roadway and entered the ditch before overturning. Ryan was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained injuries that proved fatal. Authorities said Ryan was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
