Fatal Crash in Allen Township: 20-Year-Old Bethlehem Man Killed

A 20-year-old Bethlehem man was killed Friday night after a single-vehicle crash on Weaversville Road in Allen Township, Northampton County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The victim was identified by state police as Daniel Gutierrez, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Northampton County Coroner’s Office. The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. Friday as Gutierrez was traveling north on Weaversville Road in a 2020 Honda Civic.

According to investigators, the Honda Civic was traveling at a high rate of speed when Gutierrez attempted to pass several vehicles on the roadway. During the maneuver, the Civic entered the opposing lane of traffic.

Investigators said the situation became dangerous as the vehicle approached and crested a slight hill. At that point, Gutierrez reportedly encountered oncoming traffic and attempted to return to the northbound lane.

The Honda Civic lost control while Gutierrez was returning to his lane. The vehicle subsequently left the roadway and struck a utility pole. After the impact, the Civic continued into a nearby cornfield.

The vehicle overturned several times as it traveled through the field before eventually coming to rest east of Weaversville Road. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, where they found Gutierrez and began the response to the serious crash.

Despite the efforts at the scene, Gutierrez was pronounced dead. The Northampton County Coroner’s Office responded and assisted with the investigation and official determination of the fatality.

The crash caused a significant emergency response and forced authorities to close Weaversville Road for approximately four hours. The roadway remained shut down while Pennsylvania State Police conducted their investigation, documented the crash scene and worked with other responding agencies.

The Allen Township Fire Department, Northampton Regional EMS, Northampton Regional Fire Department, PennDOT and PPL assisted Pennsylvania State Police and the Northampton County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the vehicle’s speed, the attempted passing maneuver and the events that led to the Honda Civic leaving the roadway.

Fatal single-vehicle crashes can leave families and communities struggling with the sudden loss of a loved one. For Gutierrez’s family, the crash has brought an especially painful loss, as he was only 20 years old.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released by authorities as investigators complete their examination of the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Daniel Gutierrez’s death serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly a moment on the road can turn into a tragedy. Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, obey posted speed limits, remain patient when passing and avoid maneuvers that could place themselves or other road users in danger.

As the investigation continues, Gutierrez’s family and loved ones are left to mourn his unexpected passing and remember the life of a young man whose life was cut tragically short in Friday night’s crash.
