Two Killed, Two Critically Injured in Hidalgo County Head-On Crash

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas — A devastating head-on collision in Hidalgo County late Thursday night, Aug. 14, claimed the lives of two people and left two others critically injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:26 p.m. on Aug. 14 on Texan Road, south of Freedom Avenue and north of Palmview. DPS troopers responded to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.

According to preliminary information released by DPS, a blue Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Texan Road when a silver Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound crossed over into the wrong lane of traffic. The two vehicles then collided head-on.

The impact proved fatal for two people involved in the crash.

Jonathan Tellez-Sosa, 25, of Peñitas, was identified as the driver of the Ford Fusion. He suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also killed was Brianna Yatziri Saucedo, 19, of Mission, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet Malibu. She also died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Two additional people were seriously injured and remain in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu and the passenger who was traveling in the Ford Fusion were both transported to McAllen Medical Center for emergency medical treatment. Authorities said both injured individuals remain in critical condition as of the latest information available.

The crash has left families and loved ones mourning the sudden loss of Tellez-Sosa and Saucedo, while concern remains for the two people who continue to fight for their lives following the collision.

Head-on crashes can result in particularly severe consequences because vehicles traveling in opposite directions are involved in a direct impact. In this case, the collision occurred at night along Texan Road, and investigators are working to establish the events that led the Chevrolet Malibu to cross into the southbound lane.
