DELMAR, NY — The Bethlehem Police Department has provided an update following the serious motor vehicle crash that occurred on Delaware Avenue near Fisher Boulevard on August 24, 2026. The crash, which initially left one driver with serious injuries, has now resulted in the tragic loss of Kevin P. Hynes, 62, of Wynantskill, New York.

Hynes sustained serious injuries in the collision and, according to authorities, passed away over the weekend as a result of those injuries. His death has brought profound sadness to his family, friends, loved ones and everyone who knew him.

At approximately 7:27 a.m. on August 24, Bethlehem Police responded to Delaware Avenue in the area of Fisher Boulevard in Delmar following reports of a serious motor vehicle crash. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene to assist those involved.

The investigation initially determined that a vehicle traveling westbound on Delaware Avenue entered the eastbound lane and collided head-on with another vehicle. Hynes was later identified as one of the drivers involved.

As investigators worked to determine exactly how the crash occurred, additional details emerged. Police determined that Daniel Holleran, 71, of Holland, Pennsylvania, was traveling in the area when he attempted to make a left turn. Holleran failed to yield the right of way and began entering Hynes’ lane of travel.

Hynes successfully avoided a direct collision with Holleran’s vehicle. However, during the evasive maneuver, his vehicle entered the eastbound lane of Delaware Avenue. His vehicle then collided head-on with a vehicle operated by Christopher M. Hadsell, 48, of East Berne.

The force and circumstances of the collision left Hynes with serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital for treatment, where he continued to receive medical care. Despite those efforts, Hynes ultimately succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Following the investigation, Holleran was issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket for Failure to Yield Right of Way While Making a Left Turn, in violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1141.

Authorities also determined that impairment was not a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation found that neither alcohol nor illegal substances played a role in the collision.

While the circumstances surrounding the crash have been investigated, for Hynes’ loved ones, the most important story is now the life of a man who was deeply loved and whose absence will be felt by those who knew him.
