Passenger Killed in Highway 169 Pickup Rollover Near Mankato
With heavy hearts, we remember Aja Katherine St Peter, 42, of Madison Lake, Minnesota, who tragically lost her life in a rollover crash on Highway 169 in Blue Earth County on August 22, 2026.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:33 p.m. on northbound Highway 169 at milepost 50 in South Bend Township, near Mankato. The crash involved a single vehicle, a 1982 Chevrolet C20 pickup truck, that was traveling northbound when it lost a tire. The pickup subsequently left its normal path of travel and rolled into the median.
Aja was a passenger in the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Authorities reported that she was not wearing a seat belt or otherwise restrained at the time of the crash. Despite the response of emergency personnel, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. No health-care facility was listed for her because of the severity of her injuries.
The driver, identified as Justin Steven St Peter, 42, also of Madison Lake, was injured in the crash. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and he was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for medical care. Authorities reported that he was also not wearing a seat belt.
The roadway was reported to be dry at the time of the crash. No alcohol involvement was suspected for either occupant, according to the preliminary information released by authorities. The pickup did not have airbags deployed.
Emergency and law-enforcement personnel from several agencies assisted at the scene, including the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, Mankato Police Department, South Bend Fire Department, and Mayo Ambulance, alongside the Minnesota State Patrol.
While investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash, the loss of Aja leaves behind family members, friends, loved ones, and others whose lives were touched by her presence.
