In Loving Memory of Samir Nali and His Daughter, Kashmira Nali

Father and 8-Year-Old Daughter Tragically Killed in North Reading Crash

NORTH READING, MASSACHUSETTS — A devastating late-night crash in North Reading has claimed the lives of a father and his young daughter, leaving two families and a community facing an unimaginable loss.

The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Samir Nali and his 8-year-old daughter, Kashmira Nali. Their lives were tragically cut short Saturday night after the Honda HR-V they were traveling in was struck from behind by another vehicle at a North Reading intersection.

The crash occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. as a white Acura MDX was reportedly traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. According to information available from radio transmissions and accounts provided by witnesses at the time, an Andover police officer observed the Acura traveling at a dangerous speed and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle continued onward, and the officer was reportedly unable to stop it. The officer did not continue in pursuit, while information about the speeding vehicle was communicated to authorities as it proceeded into North Reading.

Moments later, tragedy unfolded.

The Acura continued through North Reading before striking the Honda HR-V from behind near the traffic signal at the intersection of Main Street (Route 28) and North Street.

The impact was severe. The Honda was propelled down the roadway and subsequently caught fire. Samir and his daughter Kashmira were inside the vehicle.

Witnesses and responding officers reportedly attempted to reach the occupants and provide assistance. However, the fire quickly intensified, making the rescue extremely difficult.

Despite efforts at the scene, both Samir and Kashmira died from injuries associated with the devastating collision and resulting fire.

Their deaths represent a heartbreaking loss of a father and daughter who should have had many more years together.

A Family’s Unthinkable Loss

For those who knew Samir, the news is difficult to comprehend. Losing one loved one is devastating enough; losing a father and his young daughter in the same tragic event leaves a particularly painful void.

Kashmira was only eight years old — a child whose life was still unfolding, with countless memories yet to be made, milestones yet to be reached, and dreams yet to be discovered.

Her father, Samir, was just 35.

The two were together when the crash occurred, and their lives ended in the same heartbreaking moment.

As their families mourn, they are left to face the painful reality of planning farewells for two people who should still be here.

21-Year-Old Driver Facing Felony Charges

The driver of the Acura has been identified as 21-year-old Matthew Sweeney of Paxton, Massachusetts.

Sweeney was reportedly not seriously injured in the crash and was taken into custody by responding officers.

Authorities say he is facing serious criminal charges, including two counts of felony motor vehicle homicide, along with allegations involving operating under the influence, reckless driving and driving to endanger.

The criminal case remains a matter for the courts, and the allegations against Sweeney have not been proven in court.

The circumstances leading up to the collision, including the reported speed of the Acura and events surrounding the attempted traffic stop, remain important parts of the investigation.

A Tragedy That Cannot Be Undone

Fatal crashes are often described in terms of vehicles, roads, intersections and investigations, but behind every crash are human beings whose lives are permanently changed.

For Samir and Kashmira’s families, this was not simply a traffic collision. It was the sudden loss of a father and his daughter.

There will be birthdays that Kashmira will never celebrate. There will be family gatherings where her absence will be felt. There will be milestones she will never reach and memories her loved ones will now have to carry without her.

For Samir’s family, there will also be countless moments when they wish they could hear his voice, see his smile, or simply have one more ordinary day with him.

The circumstances of their deaths are painful, but the lives they lived should not be defined only by the crash that took them.

Samir was a father.

Kashmira was a daughter.

They were family.

And they mattered deeply to the people who loved them.

Remembering Samir and Kashmira

As the investigation continues and the legal process moves forward, the greatest concern for their loved ones is likely much more personal: remembering who Samir and Kashmira were before that tragic night.

Their story should be remembered not only for the circumstances surrounding their deaths, but also for the relationship between a father and his little girl.

Kashmira deserved the opportunity to grow up surrounded by the people who loved her. Samir deserved the opportunity to watch his daughter grow, celebrate her accomplishments and share the many ordinary moments that make a lifetime of memories.

Those opportunities were taken away far too soon.

The families now face the difficult days ahead — grieving, remembering and trying to make sense of a tragedy that happened in only moments.

May Samir Nali be remembered with dignity and respect.

May Kashmira Nali’s young life never be forgotten.

And may everyone who knew and loved them find strength and comfort in the memories they shared.

Rest peacefully, Samir Nali.

Rest peacefully, Kashmira Nali.

A father and daughter, forever remembered and forever loved.

Our deepest condolences go to the Nali family, their relatives, friends and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss. May their memories remain a source of comfort during the difficult days ahead.
