In Loving Memory of Anita M. Morgan, 80

With heavy hearts, we remember Anita M. Morgan, 80, of Lebo, Kansas, whose life was tragically taken in a devastating crash on Interstate 35 on Friday evening, August 28, 2026.

Anita was involved in a head-on collision near the U.S. 75 interchange at I-35 mile marker 155 in Coffey County. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 8:32 p.m. when the 2015 Toyota Highlander Anita was driving was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35. Her vehicle collided head-on with a northbound 2024 Freightliner semi tractor.

Despite the efforts that followed the collision, Anita suffered fatal injuries. She was transported to Frontier Forensics. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that she was wearing her safety restraint at the time of the crash.

The semi tractor was driven by 42-year-old Wilfred O. Orenge of New Hope, Minnesota. He was reportedly wearing a safety restraint and did not suffer apparent injuries. The Freightliner was pulling a 2020 Hyundai trailer. Following the collision, Anita’s vehicle came to rest in the northbound lanes, while the semi came to rest on its side, blocking both southbound lanes.

Both vehicles were eventually removed from the scene by Williams Towing.

While the circumstances surrounding the crash are part of the official investigation, behind the accident report is a person whose life meant far more than the details recorded on a page. Anita was a beloved member of the Lebo community, and her passing leaves behind memories that cannot be measured by statistics or described fully in a crash report.

At 80 years old, Anita had lived through eight decades filled with experiences, relationships, milestones, challenges, celebrations and countless moments that shaped the lives of those around her. Every life leaves a story, and Anita’s story will continue through the people who knew her, loved her and shared pieces of their lives with her.

The suddenness of her passing is especially difficult to comprehend. One moment, Anita was traveling along the interstate; moments later, her life had been changed forever. For those who loved her, the news is undoubtedly difficult to process. There are no easy words for the emptiness created when someone who has been part of your life is suddenly gone.

In times such as these, memories become precious. The sound of a loved one’s voice, familiar conversations, shared laughter, family traditions, photographs and ordinary moments can become treasured reminders of a life that mattered deeply.

Anita will be remembered not simply for the circumstances of her passing, but for the life she lived.

She will be remembered for the moments she shared with others, for the memories she created throughout her years, and for the place she held in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.

Her passing is a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly an ordinary evening can become a moment of unimaginable sorrow. It also reminds us to cherish the people around us, to hold our loved ones a little closer and never take another day together for granted.

To Anita’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her, may you find comfort in the memories she left behind. May the years of experiences you shared with her bring warmth during the difficult days ahead. Though her physical presence is gone, the love she gave and the memories she created will remain.

May the memories of Anita M. Morgan become a source of strength rather than only sorrow. May her life be remembered with dignity, compassion and love.

As the Lebo community mourns the loss of one of its own, we extend our deepest condolences to Anita’s family, friends and loved ones.

Rest peacefully, Anita.

Your journey on this earth may have come to a heartbreaking end, but the memories of your life will continue in the hearts of those who knew you.
