Pedestrian Fatally Struck in South Whitehall Township
With profound sadness, we remember Brian J. Carney, 39, who died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night, August 18, 2026, in South Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania.
According to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center, the fatal pedestrian crash occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. in the 3300 block of Hamilton Boulevard. Carney was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured in the collision. Emergency responders transported him to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest for medical treatment.
Despite efforts to save his life, Carney was pronounced dead at approximately 11:45 p.m., less than an hour after the crash.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity. An autopsy was completed Wednesday as authorities continued working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio reported that Carney’s cause of death was determined to be blunt force injuries. His manner of death remains under investigation.
The loss of a life in a roadway crash is devastating, leaving family members, friends, acquaintances, and others who knew the victim to face an unimaginable absence. Brian’s death serves as another heartbreaking reminder of how quickly an ordinary night can become a moment of tragedy.
At this time, authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision. The investigation remains active, and officials are continuing to gather information that may help explain what happened that night.
The South Whitehall Township Police Department, Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, and Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center are all involved in the investigation.
