In Loving Memory of Carl Leslie Earhart

It is with deep sadness that we remember Carl Leslie Earhart, 80, of Independence, Oregon, who lost his life in a tragic crash on Interstate 5 near Sutherlin on the evening of August 17, 2026.

According to Oregon State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 11:47 p.m. near milepost 138. Carl was traveling north in a Kia Rondo when the vehicle left the roadway for reasons that remain unknown. It struck a group of trees, rolled over, and caught fire. Carl was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the circumstances of his passing are heartbreaking, Carl’s life was about far more than the accident that took him. At 80 years old, he had lived through eight decades of memories, relationships, experiences, and moments that shaped the lives of those around him.

For his family and friends, his absence will be deeply felt. The familiar moments they once shared may now become treasured memories—conversations, family gatherings, stories, photographs, and simple everyday experiences that cannot be replaced.

Emergency personnel from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Fire District No. 2, Sutherlin Police Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted Oregon State Police at the scene.

As Carl’s loved ones grieve, may they find comfort in remembering the life he lived and the people he touched.

In loving memory of Carl Leslie Earhart.

May he rest peacefully, and may his memory remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
