In Loving Memory of Efren Garcia-Saldivar
A devastating wrong-way, head-on collision near Palmview has claimed a third life, leaving family members, friends, and the local community mourning the loss of 22-year-old Efren Garcia-Saldivar of Mission.
Garcia-Saldivar was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred Friday, August 14, on Texan Road south of Freedom Avenue, north of Palmview. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, he was transported to McAllen Medical Center in critical condition. Despite efforts to save his life, Garcia-Saldivar died from his injuries on Monday, August 17.
The fatal collision involved a Ford Fusion and a Chevrolet Malibu. Investigators said the Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Texan Road when the Chevrolet Malibu, traveling northbound, was on the wrong side of the roadway. The two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in devastating injuries and multiple fatalities.
Garcia-Saldivar was identified as the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu. His passenger, 19-year-old Brianna Yatziri Saucedo, tragically died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Ford Fusion, 25-year-old Jonathan Tellez-Sosa, also died at the scene.
The loss of Garcia-Saldivar several days after the collision adds another heartbreaking chapter to an already devastating incident. What began as a serious traffic crash has now resulted in the deaths of three young people, forever changing the lives of their families and everyone who knew them.
A passenger traveling in the Ford Fusion was also seriously injured and transported to McAllen Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
