In Loving Memory of Elias Cruz

With profound sadness, we remember Elias Cruz, 55, of Edinburg, Texas, whose life was tragically cut short following a hit-and-run crash in Hidalgo County early Thursday morning.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the devastating collision, which occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. on FM 88, south of Mile 20, near Elsa. What began as an ordinary journey became a heartbreaking tragedy, leaving a family and community grieving the loss of a loved one.

According to investigators, Cruz was traveling northbound on FM 88 on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. As he approached a private drive, he slowed his motorcycle in preparation to make a turn. At that moment, a gray Dodge Durango traveling behind him failed to control its speed and struck the motorcycle from behind.

The impact left Cruz seriously injured. Rather than stopping to provide assistance or remain at the scene, the driver of the Dodge Durango fled, turning the crash into a heartbreaking hit-and-run investigation.

DPS troopers later located the suspected Dodge Durango on Mile 19, east of FM 88, near the area of the collision. Investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and identify the person who was driving the vehicle at the time.

Cruz was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Despite efforts to save his life, he ultimately succumbed to those injuries.

His passing is a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary morning can become a moment of unimaginable heartbreak. Behind every traffic collision is a person with a life, a history, family members, friends, memories, and people who expected to see them again.

Elias Cruz will be remembered not simply as the victim of a tragic crash, but as a 55-year-old man whose life mattered deeply to the people who knew and loved him. His absence will be felt in countless ways—in conversations that will never happen, familiar places that will suddenly feel different, and memories that loved ones will carry with them for years to come.

For his family and friends, the days ahead may bring difficult emotions and unanswered questions. The suddenness of his death makes the loss even harder to understand. During this painful time, may those closest to Elias find strength in the memories they shared with him and comfort in knowing that his life touched others.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the driver of the Dodge Durango or the circumstances surrounding the crash to come forward. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Texas Department of Public Safety at 956-565-7600.

As investigators continue their work, the hope is that the truth surrounding this tragic collision will be fully established and that those who can provide information will step forward.

Today, we pause to honor the life of Elias Cruz.

May his family, friends, and everyone who knew him find peace and strength during this difficult time. May the memories he created throughout his life remain a source of comfort, and may he never be forgotten.

In loving memory of Elias Cruz, 55, of Edinburg, Texas.

May he rest in peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
