In Loving Memory of Hunter Susan Milo Barrows and Luciano L. Johnson

With profound sadness, family, friends, and communities across Southern Arizona are mourning the tragic loss of 26-year-old Hunter Susan Milo Barrows of Vail and 25-year-old Luciano L. Johnson of Rio Rico, who lost their lives in a devastating three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Benson.

The fatal collision occurred on the morning of Sunday, August 16, 2026, along the westbound lanes of I-10 near milepost 300. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the crash was reported at approximately 8:23 a.m.

Authorities said the incident began when a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-10 crossed the median for reasons that remain unknown. After entering the opposing lanes of traffic, the vehicle sideswiped another vehicle before continuing across the roadway and sliding underneath a commercial trailer. The vehicle struck the trailer’s tandem axles, resulting in a catastrophic collision.

Barrows, who was identified as the driver of the eastbound vehicle, and Johnson, who was traveling as a passenger, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

Their deaths have left loved ones facing an unimaginable loss. In a matter of moments, two young lives filled with possibilities and plans for the future were taken away in a tragic highway collision.

Hunter Susan Milo Barrows, 26, of Vail, will be remembered by those who knew her for the life she shared with family, friends, and members of her community. At just 26 years old, she had many years ahead of her, making the suddenness of her passing especially heartbreaking.

Luciano L. Johnson, 25, of Rio Rico, also leaves behind a life that ended far too soon. At 25, he was still at an age when countless chapters of life were yet to be written. His family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched are now left to remember the moments they shared with him.

The crash also serves as a painful reminder of how quickly circumstances on a busy interstate can change. Interstate 10 is a major transportation route through Arizona, carrying motorists, commercial vehicles, and travelers across the state. A collision involving multiple vehicles can have devastating consequences, particularly when a vehicle unexpectedly enters opposing traffic.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The reason the eastbound vehicle crossed the median had not been determined in the information released following the collision. Authorities will work to establish the sequence of events and determine the factors that contributed to the deadly crash.

For the families of Barrows and Johnson, however, the investigation cannot undo the loss. No explanation can replace the people they loved or erase the pain created by their sudden deaths.

During this difficult time, thoughts and condolences are with the families, friends, and loved ones of both victims. Their memories will remain with the people who knew them, and the lives they touched will continue to be part of their communities.

May Hunter Susan Milo Barrows and Luciano L. Johnson be remembered not only for the tragic circumstances of their deaths, but for the lives they lived, the relationships they formed, and the memories they leave behind.

Rest in peace, Hunter Susan Milo Barrows and Luciano L. Johnson.

May their families find strength and comfort in the days ahead, and may the memories of these two young lives continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved them.
