In Loving Memory of Jack Mitchell Anderson

It is with deep sadness that the New Hanover County community remembers Jack Mitchell Anderson, 87, who died on August 19, eight days after deputies responded to his home in connection with the death of his wife, Linda Bullington Anderson.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Andersons’ residence in the 7800 block of Sanderling Place, just off Marsh Oaks Drive near Market Street, at approximately 8 p.m. on August 11. The emergency response followed a 911 call reportedly made by Jack Anderson.

Authorities said Anderson apparently told the dispatcher that he had killed his wife. When deputies arrived at the home, they discovered 86-year-old Linda Bullington Anderson deceased inside the residence from a gunshot wound.

Deputies also located Jack Anderson in the backyard suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately provided emergency medical attention and transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He remained in critical condition for the following eight days before the sheriff’s office confirmed his death on Wednesday, August 19.

Jack and Linda Anderson were married, according to authorities. Their deaths have left behind a heartbreaking story involving a husband and wife whose lives came to a tragic end at their New Hanover County home.

While investigators continue working to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the incident, the deaths have brought grief to those who knew the couple and concern throughout the community. The sheriff’s office has described the case as an investigation involving the death of Linda Anderson and the subsequent death of Jack Anderson.

At this time, authorities have not publicly released additional details explaining what led to the events inside the home. Investigators are expected to continue examining evidence and information surrounding the 911 call, the circumstances inside the residence, and the events that occurred before deputies arrived.

The Andersons’ story is ultimately one of profound loss. Linda, 86, was found deceased on August 11, while Jack, 87, fought for his life for more than a week before succumbing to his injuries.

As the investigation continues, Jack Mitchell Anderson will be remembered as a husband, a family member, and a person whose life came to a tragic conclusion. Behind the details of the investigation was an elderly couple whose lives had been intertwined for many years, making the circumstances especially difficult for family, friends, neighbors, and others who knew them.

There are still questions surrounding what happened at the Sanderling Place residence, and officials have emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing. WECT has also reported that it is seeking the 911 call logs from the sheriff’s office as authorities continue gathering information.

For now, the community mourns two lives lost in a deeply tragic sequence of events.

In loving memory of Jack Mitchell Anderson, 87.

May his memory, and the memory of Linda Bullington Anderson, remain with the family and loved ones who are left to grieve their loss. May those closest to them find strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time.
