With profound sadness, we remember Michael Mast Roe, 70, of Hoxie, Kansas, whose life was tragically cut short Friday morning, August 21, 2026, following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 in Sheridan County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. near mile marker 85.9 on U.S. 24, about four miles west of K-23. The crash involved a 2014 Kenworth truck and a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle.

Investigators reported that the Kenworth was traveling eastbound on U.S. 24 when its driver attempted to turn left into a parking lot. During the maneuver, the truck turned into the path of the westbound Kawasaki motorcycle. The motorcycle subsequently collided with the passenger side of the truck.

The motorcycle was operated by Roe, who was identified by authorities as the victim of the fatal crash. Despite the response of emergency personnel, Roe sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Roe’s passing leaves behind a profound sense of loss for those who knew and loved him. The driver of the Kenworth was identified as 52-year-old Luke D. Smith of McDonald. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Smith reported no apparent injuries in the crash.
