CLEVELAND, S.C. — The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has identified a 52-year-old Liberty man who died following a motorcycle crash involving another vehicle in northern Greenville County.

Samuel Caleb Owens, 52, of Liberty, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision, which occurred shortly before 12:45 p.m. Saturday, August 15, in the 6000 block of Geer Highway in Cleveland.

Greenville County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash and found the motorcycle operator at the scene. Despite emergency efforts, Owens was pronounced deceased at approximately 1:04 p.m.

The incident prompted an investigation by authorities as they worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Coroner Releases Cause of Death

An update from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office following an external examination conducted Monday, August 17, provided additional information regarding Owens’ death.

According to the coroner’s office, Owens died from blunt force trauma of the torso sustained in the crash. His manner of death was officially ruled accidental.

The determination confirms that Owens’ death resulted from injuries sustained during the motor vehicle collision and was not considered intentional.
