In Loving Memory of Alexander Morelli and Doug Griffith

Two lives were tragically lost on Thursday, August 20, 2026, following a devastating two-vehicle crash in the Town of Chautauqua, New York. The collision claimed the lives of 23-year-old Alexander Morelli of Meadville, Pennsylvania, and 51-year-old Doug Griffith of Massena, New York.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were called to Route 430 shortly after 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash involving two vehicles. Responding authorities began working at the scene as first responders assessed the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The preliminary investigation determined that Morelli was traveling eastbound on Route 430 when his vehicle failed to keep right and crossed over a double solid center line. His vehicle then collided with the vehicle traveling westbound and driven by Griffith.

The impact resulted in a heartbreaking loss of life. Both Morelli and Griffith were pronounced dead at the scene.
