Young Life Tragically Lost in Lafayette County Crash
The community of Abbeville, Mississippi, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 19-year-old Chloe Johnson, who died following a single-vehicle crash on County Road 103 in Lafayette County on Friday afternoon, August 14, 2026.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were called to the area of County Road 103 near County Road 104 at approximately 4:07 p.m. after receiving a 911 report of a serious single-vehicle accident.
When deputies arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had crashed on the east side of County Road 103. Inside the vehicle were two 19-year-old women, Chloe Johnson and her passenger, Zoe Johnson, both of Abbeville.
Deputies immediately began working to remove both occupants from the damaged vehicle. Their efforts became even more urgent when the vehicle began to catch fire. Both occupants were successfully extracted from the vehicle before the fire could further endanger them.
The Lafayette County Fire Department and Baptist EMS responded to the scene and began providing emergency medical care.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Chloe Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lafayette County Coroner Glenn Coleman confirmed her death.
Chloe was only 19 years old, a young woman whose life held so much promise and possibility. Her sudden passing has left family members, friends, and members of the Abbeville community facing an unimaginable loss.
Her passenger, Zoe Johnson, also 19, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. She was transported from the scene by Hospital Wing to Region One Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Authorities reported that she was in critical but stable condition.
As loved ones grieve the loss of Chloe, they are also keeping Zoe in their thoughts and hoping for her recovery.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to the crash site and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities said the crash appeared to involve only one vehicle, and there was no indication of foul play. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Sheriff Joey East expressed his condolences to Chloe’s family and emphasized the devastating impact of losing someone so young.
“Our community is heartbroken by the tragic loss of this young lady,” Sheriff East said. “A life filled with promise was taken far too soon.”
He asked the community to respect the family’s privacy while they navigate the difficult days ahead and encouraged residents to keep both families in their thoughts and prayers.
The sheriff also reminded motorists of the importance of making safety a priority whenever they are behind the wheel. A single moment on the road can change the lives of families forever, making caution, awareness, and responsible driving essential.
