Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, friends, and loved ones of Randall Cassidy Jr. of Allegany, New York, who tragically lost his life following a vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Montour County, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, August 14, 2026.

According to the Montour County Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police at Milton, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 7:05 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 228 in West Hemlock Township.

Authorities reported that Cassidy was driving along I-80 when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled into a heavy brush area along the south side of the interstate. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, and officials are working to establish the events that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

Preliminary information indicates that investigators believe Cassidy may have experienced a medical emergency before the crash. The exact nature of the suspected medical emergency has not been released, and officials are continuing to investigate all circumstances surrounding his death.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Cassidy was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His wife, Samantha Cassidy, was also inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, along with the family’s dog. Thankfully, Samantha and the dog were not injured. Officials reported that all occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.

While the circumstances of the crash are still being examined, the fact that Cassidy’s wife and their dog survived without injury is a small measure of relief amid an otherwise heartbreaking situation.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, August 17, at 9:30 a.m. with Forensic Pathology Associates in Allentown. The examination is expected to assist authorities in determining the official cause and manner of Cassidy’s death and may provide additional information regarding whether a medical emergency contributed to the crash.

Several emergency agencies responded to the scene and assisted with the incident, including the Buckhorn Fire Department, Geisinger EMS, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Montour County Coroner’s Office.

Their response reflects the coordinated efforts of first responders who worked at the scene during the evening hours following the crash.
