In Loving Memory of Delores Roberts

With profound sadness, we remember Delores Roberts, 73, of Hastings, whose life was tragically taken Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Hall County, Nebraska.

The crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. near mile marker 312, prompting a response from Hall County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel. Investigators determined that a 2012 Dodge Journey was traveling eastbound in the westbound passing lane when it collided with a 2019 International semi-truck traveling westbound.

Roberts, the driver of the Dodge Journey, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities reported that she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the collision, and the vehicle’s front airbag deployed. Despite those safety measures and the efforts of responding personnel, Roberts could not be saved.

The semi-truck was being driven by 46-year-old Josh Wakefield of North Platte, who was also wearing his seat belt. Wakefield was transported to Grand Island Regional Hospital for evaluation of possible injuries.

According to investigators, alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash. Authorities are examining the possibility that extremely low visibility caused by dense fog contributed to the circumstances surrounding the collision. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to establish the complete sequence of events.

The response and investigation involved several agencies, including the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Doniphan QRT, Grand Island Fire Department and the Hall County Attorney’s Office. Investigators continue to review evidence from the scene and circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officials have confirmed that next of kin have been notified.

While the investigation will determine the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking collision, the loss of Delores Roberts is, above all, the loss of a beloved human being whose life mattered deeply to those who knew her.
