XXIn Loving Memory of William Wonchoba: 86-Year-Old Millsboro Man Dies After Long Neck Crash
LONG NECK, Del. — A community is mourning the loss of 86-year-old William Wonchoba of Millsboro following injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in Long Neck, Delaware. Delaware State Police are investigating the collision, which occurred last week and ultimately claimed Wonchoba’s life several days later.
According to Delaware State Police, the crash happened on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, at approximately 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of Mallard Road and Long Neck Road.
Preliminary findings indicate that Wonchoba was driving a Ford Explorer westbound on Mallard Road. The Explorer approached a stop sign and was expected to remain stopped before entering the intersection.
Investigators said the Explorer failed to remain stopped and proceeded to make a left turn onto Long Neck Road. At that moment, a Chrysler Pacifica was traveling northbound on Long Neck Road.
The two vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, resulting in a serious collision. The front of the Pacifica struck the driver’s side of the Explorer, causing significant damage and leaving at least one person trapped inside a vehicle.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, where those involved in the crash were provided medical assistance. Wonchoba was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision.
Despite receiving medical care, Wonchoba’s injuries proved fatal. Delaware State Police confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, Aug. 23, five days after the crash.
He was 86 years old.
Wonchoba’s death has transformed what initially appeared to be a serious traffic collision into a fatal crash investigation, as authorities continue working to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.
Another Driver Injured
The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica was identified as a 69-year-old man from Millsboro. He was also transported to an area hospital following the crash.
Authorities said his injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
The collision remains under investigation, and Delaware State Police have not indicated that additional conclusions regarding fault or potential charges have been reached.
